Hostgator is a great hosting service to use if you are a beginner marketer. They have flexible hosting plans so you can be sure to find one that perfectly suits your needs, and they are known for having reliable up-time and great support. Hosting in general is not very expensive, and Hostgator’s pricing is very competitive so you will find hosting with them to be a minor cost when getting your business started.
What Options Does It Have?
Hostgator has several different options to choose from, whether you are looking to host your first site or have a few sites you would like to move over to them. Their plans include:
- Basic hosting.
- Reseller hosting.
- Virtual private server (VPS).
- Dedicated hosting.
Basic Hosting.
Basic hosting is only recommended for the absolute brand new marketer on a budget looking to host just one or two sites. You only get one cpanel account, so subsequent domains after the first one would have to added as add-on domains.
Reseller Hosting.
Your best bet is to start with a resellers account. Theoretically these are used to resell hosting to other clients, but they are ideal for managing multiple sites that are all yours. You get a WHM interface which is used for managing all the sites in your hosting account.
CPanel And Other Features.
You can add sites and allocate customized resources to specific sites as they start to gain more traffic and take up a greater amount of hosting requirements. Each site has its own cpanel which makes managing each site much easier. You can install wordpress with three clicks using Fantastico, analyze your traffic using AWStats and add and manage mysql databases. See sample screenshot of Cpanel at the right image.
VPS And Dedicated Hosting.
VPS and dedicated hosting are used for advanced marketers who are already turning a profit. If you run autoblogs, you may need to upgrade from a reseller account to a VPS since autoblogs take up a greater amount of resources. A VPS server provides the functionality of a dedicated server but without the cost.
A VPS is where the server is partitioned so that the disk space and resources on that partition is allocated only to your account, even though you may share the server with other accounts. The advantage of this is that your sites are largely unaffected by other users on the server. If someone were to load heavy cron jobs that take up a lot of server resources, this won’t negatively impact your sites like it could on a reseller or shared hosting server.
Dedicated hosting is where your account occupies an entire server, so you don’t share it with any other users at all. Because the cost can’t be spread among multiple users, this is an expensive option. If you have one or more profitable sites where the performance of your host is paramount to the success of your sites and you want the privacy of your own server, then this type of hosting would be well worth it.
Pros:
Unlimited domains (as in, in one account you can add as many domains as you want).
6,000 GB of bandwidth in the baby package and unlimited in the swamp one.
Targeting specific keywords or phrases.
600 GB of disk space in the baby package and 1,000 GB in the swamp one.
Unlimited MySQL databases (important if you are going to install WordPress, Drupal, Joomla or other packages).
Fantastico: easy one-click installation of most of the known scripts/CMS. |
Mail policy and limits: There is a 200 hourly email limit per domain. If you send over this amount in any hour, most of the e-mails will bounce back with a undeliverable error. |
Is It Worth It?
Hostgator is a popular choice among a lot of marketers for a reason. With it’s reliable up-time and good customer support, inexperienced marketers can rely on Hostgator to keep their sites up and running hassle-free while they learn the ins and outs of running their own online business. Having to deal with bad hosting is frustrating and wastes a lot of valuable time.
Why We Use HostGator?
We have used Hostgator and still do for some of our newer sites, and have no complaints. Whenever there have been any issues (and most of them were minor), their support has always been quick to respond. There are better hosts for when you have more advanced hosting needs, but if you want to start with an ideal host who makes hosting as easy and cheap as can be, then start with Hostgator.
What Does It Cost?
Unlimited Web Hosting starts at $3.96 a Month. It includes unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth, free sitebuilder and more.
The Reseller Hosting starts at $19.96 a Month. VPS Hosting and Dedicated Servers cost $15.96 and $139 a Month respectively. Click here to visit the HostGator site.
